Questions for fashion designers!?
Is it right for a designer to say "I made these clothes" if they didn't sew/stitch it themselves? Or would it be more correct of them to say "I designed these clothes" if they gave their design and notes/instructions on how to put them together to a seamstress/tailor? Or is either fine/acceptable? Does it detract from the skill or credibility of the designer if they didn't personally make the clothes from fabric?
Please enlighten, I really don't know much about fashion. I'm just curious. :O
There is a show called Fashion Show on Bravo, and one of the designers says that he designs the clothes and others sew them. I think that he takes credit for the whole thing -- has his name and label on them, and the folks who work for him get the privilege of saying they worked for the House of XYZ. When they get experience enough, they can go into business for themselves and create their own line -- oftentimes inspired by the house they worked for.
