Sew Garment Fabric
What do I pay a local person who knows how to sew, to sew my clothing line samples?
I have patterns for them to follow and fabric. I need about 35 garments made for samples. I dont what to charge them. I am considering finding a person in my city who can sew patterns, but I have no idea how much to pay them.
More than minimum wage. Don't be surprised if they charge anywhere from 20$ an hour up. And don't be surprised to find few who are willing to make samples anymore. There is always pattern correction issues, construction correction issues, and other concerns. When I did samples for other designers I seldom had things go together perfectly the first time. Don't think you can get something for nothing or think you can pay minimum wage for maximum work. Your sample maker will need proper professional commercial/industrial quality machines, and the work will need to be near commercial quality, and the sample maker will need to be able to find and solve any pattern problems. A local person with a household machine, even an expensive new one - isn't right for the job. Some big issues don't show up until the sample stage. . In samples you will get what you pay for, so you will need a real sample maker, not just "some local person who sews". It's not worth the savings.
