What do you think of this poem I wrote?
She is my beautiful naked mermaid
Basking on her lily pad
The sun
Stroking her
Porcelain skin,
Unable to thaw
The ocean forever
Strangling her
Like a blue
Satin scarf.
She lives alone
With aspirations only
To waltz on the rainforest floor,
To feel pulse of Conga drums
To kick up the dirt
And then have the ocean tide
Lick her sandy feet clean.
To never escape
The tropical colors
Even when she closes
Her eyes.
And to make love
For the very first time
Under the tree canopy
And stars peeking through
Like curious eyes
Watching a flower blossom.
It's fantastic. I like writing Poetry but novels are my area of expertise so I couldn't be a true critic. But your use of words, the theme and perhaps that abstract feeling makes me feel part of the poem. I love your word selection i.e waltz, lick, thaw and basking because it makes me feel like I am in the poem; waltzing with her for example has a much more warming feeling than walking with her. This is the English language at its best.
Write more, this is brilliant but your aim should be to right a better one that captures the imagination of potentially anyone!
